I could attempt to explain what my art is about and why I make it. I’ve tried before. My artist statement has undergone many writings and rewritings. The simple fact is, that I’m not entirely sure. I know what I like, I know what I do. I don’t really have any explanation of why or what for. I just know that I can’t stop. I make up explanations but they just don’t sound true. It doesn’t sound like me.
The simple fact of the matter is that the viewing experience isn’t really about me once the act of painting is done. So I don’t really know if it matters how I came about the idea. I don’t know how important I really am once the work is complete. I’m not an activist and I’m not trying to change anyone’s mind. I am simply compelled to create and I use subject matter and design elements that interest me.
Patterns, animals, color, and science. Mash them all together and you have my art.
