Here’s some pictures of a few of the cool and strange scarecrows that other people made. Mine was placed at the entrance as soon as everyone walked in!!! Schweet! Scroll down to the previous post to see my scarecrow. The whole event was really cool and I discovered a new beer that’s very tasty. It’s called Mothership Wit.

I dropped off my scarecrow “Red Panda and Scared Crow” at the Atlanta Botanical Gardens yesterday. I have some pictures to share, of the process and the finished product.

First I created chicken wire skeletons to support the red panda, crow, and cupcake.

Then I covered them with strips of paper grocery bags, then stuffinz got glued to that, and then I covered the stuffinz with plastic grocery bags. The sculpture has to sit out in the elements for a month and I tried my best to make it as sturdy and water resistant as possible.

The fun part was gluing the outer layer of fabric on, and sewing the facial features. After everything was finished the whole thing got a spray down of Scotchgard.

I have been very very busy creating a scarecrow masterpiece for The Atlanta Botanical Garden. All I can say is “Red Panda and Scared Crow”. Will post when complete

A few months ago I participated in The Canvas Project. Last night I flew into Hartsfield-Jackson Airport in Atlanta and decided to take some pictures of the show. Coincidentally the curators at Art House Co-op decided to post their pictures of the show today. As the pictures that they took are much better, I’ll just link to them. Here

Is it possible to draw flamingos, and not have the result look like a souvenir t-shirt, from Anybeachtown USA? I tried, and I think my friend Magicka Mike will appreciate the outcome.

Cellular Self Portrait: Viral

An individual gets sick, the virus spreads, populations bottleneck, immunities are formed, the viruses evolve and the cycle starts again. Viruses contribute to massive extinctions and help to bring about the conditions for new species to fill in the gaps where the sick species have fallen. It’s part of the history of the earth. It’s part of me.

And of course there’s the whole Agent Smith thing.

Drills.

Like Mandrills, but gray with black faces. Their chunk of rainforest has broken from earth, and floats gently off to another plane of existence. Maybe they’ll make a new planet somewhere. Maybe not. Maybe they’ll just enjoy the flowers and the warm pink sun for an eternity or two.

How cute is this!?! Atlanta Botanical Garden Any ideas anyone? I’ll give you contributing credit if you give me a sweet idea. That’s fair right?

Zoo Atlanta has meerkats!

By the way, check their “Beat the Heat” promo through August 30th. GO SEE ANIMALS!!! They need you and your money more than ever. Fortunately meerkats are cheap dates, they eat lots of bugs. I completed 3 new backgrounds for my self portrait series.

From left to right when completed they will be: Reproduction-Asexual, Virus, and Reproduction-Sexual.

These will be some of the works in the Cellular section of the self portraits. While I’m working on these I’ve been sketching some of the System section of the series. The System section will include definitions of self such as: Political, Religion, and Electric. When the series is complete, which may take a while, it will consist of many “definitions”. There will also be potential for “subsection” within the definitions. These definitions of self will then be filed under “topics” that fall beneath the central heading of “self portrait”. The organization of the material leads to many different possibilities, in production, display, and viewing.

It’s very exciting to have the conceptual material for so much production. I’ll keep posting my progress. Make sure to check the portfolio sections of the site for completed works. There will soon be 2 new headings to the homepage, so that I can separate the pet portraits from the self portraits.
